Never touched clay before? That is exactly who our beginner pottery classes are designed for. 90 minutes of guided technique, instant feedback from instructors, and a finished piece you take home. The first time clay obeys your hands, the smile is universal.
Most first-time students are nervous walking in and grinning walking out. Our instructors take you through the technique step by step — centring clay, shaping it, refining surfaces, painting with underglazes. The learning curve is shorter than you would expect. Within 90 minutes, you will have a hand-built or wheel-thrown piece ready for kiln firing.
Each beginner class focuses on one technique — either wheel throwing (centring, pulling, shaping clay on the wheel) or hand building (pinching, coiling, slabs). We do not throw multiple techniques at you on day one — you will leave the session genuinely competent at one specific skill rather than confused about three. Most students return for the other technique within a few weeks.
Comfortable clothing you do not mind getting clay-stained. We provide aprons but they are not full coverage. Closed-toe shoes recommended. Long hair? Bring something to tie it back. Watches and jewellery off for wheel throwing — clay gets everywhere. Bring water if you want; we have refills available at most studios.
Pieces need to dry completely (cannot be rushed) before going into the kiln. Drying takes 1 to 2 weeks. Firing is a 10-hour cycle followed by 10-hour cooldown. Glazing and second firing add another 5 to 7 days. Total turnaround: about 5 weeks from class day to ready-for-collection. We notify you when your piece is ready.

Our hand-building class is the most forgiving for first-timers — pinching and coiling are easier to control than the wheel. Wheel throwing has a steeper first-30-minutes learning curve, then it clicks. If you want maximum chance of success on day one, start with hand building.
Hand building beginner class: RM158 per adult, RM119 per kid. Wheel throwing beginner class: RM169 per adult, RM130 per kid. All materials, glazing, and kiln firing included. Take-home piece ready 5 weeks after class.
One class is enough to learn the basics and take home a piece. If you want deeper skill, our monthly classes (4 sessions, weekly) build progressively. Most students attend 1 to 2 single classes first to see if they enjoy it before committing to a monthly programme.
